I remember watching a review of Dust 514 after t came out, and a reviewer was so confused that he actually got a lot of things wrong. He could only get an AUR scrambler rifle because he didn't have the skill, but as a result, he thought that the scrambler rifles (and other weapons) could only be obtained through microtransaction. You could argue it was his fault for not understanding how the game's progression and currencies work, but the game didn't make things very clear, even to this day. New players who don't understand the progression system, and who see that only the AUR version is usable will be obligated to buy AUR, think the game is pay-to-win, and will be turned off. On top of that, the AUR items just add a lot of clutter to the assets. Almost every item has an AUR version, and sometimes they have several AUR versions (some have both 'neo' and 'pyrus' versions).
Another issue is the progression system itself. You go to the skill tree, buy a skill book, raise a skill, then you go to the market, buy the item, then you go to the fittings, and then place the item in a fit. This is a needlessly long and fractured experience. The act of unlocking a skill feel very disconnected from it's effects, and it can all be pretty confusing.
Now, imagine if things worked like this: 1) You get on Dust, you do some battles, and as salvage you get hundreds of standard items, dozens of advanced items, and very few prototype items.
2) The market is divided into 2 sections: the ISK-player market, and the AUR market. You can place your items in the ISK player market for sale, and you set the prices. Every single item in the ISK market is something obtained/crafted by, and sold by a fellow merc (hence the need for massive increase in loot).
3) Prices of items in the ISK store would be determined by demand, and scarcity. This would naturally cause rare proto items to be worth more than standard ones. This is where the AUR market comes in: in addition to letting you buy cosmetic items, keys, boxes, and boosters, the AUR market lets you purchase bulk packs of rare items for AUR. ISK and AUR items should have the same skill requirements to prevent the kind of confusion I covered in the first paragraph of this thread.
4) All guns start as a singular BPO, but that BPO can be fitted with consumable parts to "craft" different variants and tiers. For example, you have mass diver BPO, it has a "core" slot, and the fitted "core" module's tier (standard, advanced, prototype, or officer) decides the effective mass driver. If you want the equivalent of or current prototype "Freedom mass driver," you just fit a prototype "core". There is also a "fire" slot which holds a "fire module" which comes in many flavors (assault, breach, tactical) which determines how the mass driver shoots. Weapons would have their own fitting menu like dropsuits and vehicles, and saved fittings of weapons can then be sold, or fitted inside dropsuit fits. This not only gives players more freedom, but eliminates the need for devs to create so many different versions of a gun. This idea is borrowed from Aeon Amadi.
5) All dropsuits are the same tier (no standard, advanced proto, etc), bur they all have a "power core" slot. The effective tier of a dropsuit is determined by a "power core" module, which decides how much PG/CPU the dropsuit has. Dropsuits can all then be turned into BPOs, and let the "power core" and other fitted item determine the price of the fit. Credit to Aero Yassavi, and Avallo Kantor.

6) Now to progression, and the skill tree. The actual suits and weapons won't have any skill requirements, but the skills decide what "cores" you're allowed to use on the base weapons. Say you want some scrambler rifles, so you raise the scrambler rifle skill to level 1 without having to waste time buying a skill book first. Aside from the bonus and unlocking the ability to use standard "cores", raising the scrambler rifle operation skill to level 1 gives you a free scrambler rifle BPO with x50 standard "cores". Raising it to level 3 gives you x15 advanced "cores". After that, there could be a prompt to go to the fittings to put on what you just unlocked. The effect is that this is much faster (no buying skill books), and the rewards of unlocking a skill become immediately apparent since you get some free items. Raising it to level 5 unlocks x5 prototype "cores". This was inspired by Legion's progression talk at Fanfest, but I have to say that I still hate the idea of locking items behind role-based trees; I don't want to have to unlock a bunch of scout stuff I don't want just to get to a shotgun. For clear role-based progression, something like the "progression" menu in Dust's current incarnation can be implemented.
7) Point number 3 mentioned people being able to buy bulk packs of rare items (like prototype and maybe officer), and this can lead to issues, but those issues can avoided if public battles into different levels, each with their own meta-level limits for fits. This means you can't use prototype fits in low level public battles, but you can still use them in high level ones, FW, PC, and PVE (hopefully someday).
I also want things like PVE, some kind attack/defend modes, open sandbox area, social spaces like space stations, racial parity (every race having one of each type of weapon, like shotguns, long range rifles, launchers, heavy weapons. Each race having one of each type of vehicle, and equal amount of map outposts), varied exotic environments, but I don't think a big wishlist of dreams would be productive. This list is basically how I think existing systems should be revamped for a new platform.

Look at the smallest silliest bug you can think of that has been in DUST for over a year and hasn't been fixed. Do you even think one paragraph of your wasted posts and ideas will be implemented if these small bugs that have existed for over a year haven't been fixed!
DUST is not going anywhere but downhill, it does not have the same support as a lot of other games do. It's a relatively old IP now, it never came to fruition, no EVE connection, nothing happened and nothing ever will happen so stop wasting your time.

A market would also not work based around salvage. Maybe some day we will get a form of manufacturing which will allow us to be a step closer to a full realization of Dust. AUR-bought versions could be trade-locked to prevent negative effects on the market. Even if it isn't, most people don't buy AUR anyway, so the effects on the economy wouldn't be that large (though I would prefer if they were trade-locked). I don't see why an economy based on salvage can't be a thing.

This not only makes tiers 2 and 4 feel like less of a stepping stone, but it also dangles a carrot in front of players to continue upgrading their selected weapon since they have a higher tier core they can't use.
